Rambach agar, for the detection of Salmonella
Using Rambach Agar, a species specific positive chromogenic medium based on the metabolisation of propylene glycol by Salmonella and with procedures identical to those used in classical agar culture methods : prepare Rambach Agar petri plates according to instructions, innoculate and incubate for 24 hours.
Rapid and reliable (no false positive) detection of non-typhi Salmonella. Easily distinguishable colonies thanks to the red colouring they have aquired. Other bacterial species give blue, violet or colourless colonies. The red colonies of Salmonella thus detected can be studies directly by serotyping and biochemical strip tests for confirmation and epidermiological follow up.
Results are readable under normal lighting.
- Salmonella - red
- other bacterial colonies - blue, violet or colourless
