ProSpore 2

Prospore2, manufactured by Raven Biological Laboratories Inc., is a safe, convenient and easy to read self-contained biological indicator.

Prospore2 tests are used to validate and routinely monitor steam sterilisation.

These tests provide a stringent biological challenge to the steam sterilisation process.

Each test had a chemical indicator on the label to assist the user.

Prospore2 is a safe and easy to use self-contained biological indicator. It can be used to validate or monitor steam sterilisation.

Prospore2 consists of a paper carrier containing Bacillus stearothermophilus (ATCC #7953).

The spore carrier along with the glass vial containing media are located inside a plastic tube. The cap permits steam to penetrate the spore carrier. Prospore2 features a chemical indicator printed on each test. The lot number and expiration date are also conveniently printed on the label.

The standard population of Bacillus stearothermophilus is 105. Other populations are also available on special request.

Procedure for use

One or more tests should be placed in the sterilisation chamber. At the end of the process, remove the tests from the chamber and allow them to cool (approximately 15 minutes). The top of the plastic tube should be sealed by depressing the cap and media ampoule crushing using the tool provided. Once this has been done, place the test in an incubator at 56ºC for steam sterilisation (Bacillus stearothermophilus). The test should be checked periodically for spore growth. Such growth is evident from the development of turbidity and a colour change from purple to yellow. A control test should be used to verify spore viability. The chemical indicator on the label makes it easy to distinguish the control.

Results are available in 48 hours.

Certification

Each box of tests contains instructions for use and a certification of population and D-value. The certification will also include the expiry date which at the time of shipping is normally a minimum of 14 months. Prospore2 is manufactured pursuant to current Good Manufacturing Practices as established by the United States Food and Drug Administration and complies with standards established by U.S.P.

Packaging

Prospore2 tests are available from M-Tech in boxes of 50.
