ProSpore
Prospore offered by Raven Biological Laboratories Inc. is a convenient and entirely self-contained biological challenge for steam sterilisation.
Prospore is ideal for validating and routinely monitoring the steam sterilisation of liquids.
Each test contains Bacillus stearothemophilus spores ATCC #7953 in a growth medium with a pH indicator to monitor recovery of spores.
Prospore is a safe and easy to use self-contained biological indicator. The test is used to validate or monitor steam sterilisation.
Prospore consists of a sealed ampoule containing Bacillus stearothemophilus spores suspended in a growth media. A pH indicator of bromocresol purple has been added to assist in detecting spore growth.
The outgrowth of spores decreases pH, causing a colour change from purple to yellow.
The standard population is 105 per unit. Other populations are available upon special request.
Prospore is ideal for validation and monitoring the steam sterilisation of liquids.
Procedures for use
One or more tests should be suspended or otherwise placed in the item to be sterilised, or placed in the sterilisation chamber. At the end of the sterilisation process, the tests should be carefully removed and allowed to cool. Once they have cooled (about 5 minutes) the tests should be incubated at 56ºC. The tests should be checked periodically for growth. Growth is indicated by turbidity and a colour change from purple to yellow. This indicates a failure of the sterilisation cycle. A control test should be used to verify spore viability.
Not for use with flash sterilisation
Certification
Each box of test ampoules contains instructions for use and a certification of population and D-value. The certification also will include the expiration date which at the time of shipping is normally a minimum of 14 months. Prospore is manufactured pursuant to current Good Manufacturing Practices as established by the United States Food and Drug Administration and complies with standards established by U.S.P.
